Making a mistake is no big deal, unless you cannot resolve it or even worse, you will repeat it on a frequent basis. The LEAN Daily Management System (DMS) can turn everyday obstacles into opportunities for improvement. As a matter of fact, it is based on preventing and resolving issues in a structured and purposeful way.

Are you already accustomed to these following recurrent situations on production floors? If you recognize yourself in those contexts, it may be time to consider implementing a DMS.

1. Are your supervisors in a constant reactive mode?

Instead of ensuring a smooth running of operations, your supervisors put out fires. Is a “Superhero” culture necessary to manage your business? This ineffective process and resources management takes control over your supervisors’ everyday work. Thus, they are less willing to direct their efforts towards efficiently leading operational performance and resolving problems to reach business goals.

Avoid constantly managing emergencies and organize your managers’ critical activities related to manufacturing processes. This way, you will become proactive without having to experience the harmful effects of potential obstacles.

2. Are your previously solved problems coming back?

As your supervisors are facing numerous problems in a short period of time, they must quickly and efficiently find countermeasures… However, applying a “band-aid” solution without healing the damages is useless and will never help you save time nor money.

Be sure to manage issues in a structured way and prioritize your resolution efforts so that they are aligned with your work objectives.

3. Does maintaining your improvements gives you headaches?

Many efforts are required in order to improve your operations. On the other hand, significant gains realized early do not last. The lack of structure regarding the control of methods, as well as the absence of diligent follow-up on processes are the main causes of improvements unsustainability.

Integrating follow-ups regarding the implementation of new practices in your daily schedules will allow to maintain improvements in the long term.

4. Does your employee engagement vary?

Your employees have no idea if they have achieved their performance goals and are very little involved in the resolution of daily problems. Also, the lack of clarity in the definition of roles and responsibilities creates frustration within your work teams. An employee is engaged if he is motivated to reach targeted objectives.

Adopt a management method based on an efficient use of your employees’ full potential. Let them participate in developing ways of working to create a continuous improvement culture throughout your organisation.

5. Does the lack of communication lead to mistakes?

Communication in terms of operations do not let you share information among your work teams. Although you already organize many meetings, they might look like a holidaymaker group around a campfire eating marshmallows. Unorganized, these discussions do not result in concrete actions.

Structure your meetings so they can support your organizational processes and help align efforts along with priorities.

6. Are your manufacturing support teams working in silos?

Do your support departments feel involved with the daily problems occurring in production? Inconsistencies between operational priorities and those of your support departments have inevitable negative consequences on the global organization’s performance.

Define common performance objectives for all departments to improve their member’s collaboration, regarding all operations. Moreover, include those departments in your daily management approach so that they can participate in problems resolution from the get-go.

A daily management implementation system guarantees the smooth running of your factory, through structured follow-ups on your operations, as well as a problem management in a definitive and continuous way.
